Obama presents new first dog
During the presidential campaign in 2008 Obama promised his two daughters that they could have a puppy if he became the next U.S. president, as a token of his appreciation for the hardships that they endured during the campaign. Briefly following his inauguration as President of the U.S. Obama presented the new four-legged family member.
The Obama puppy is a Portuguese Water Dog named “Bo.” One of the reasons the Obama’s had for choosing a Portuguese Water is that the presidential family needs a dog that is allergy friendly.
To celebrate Bo’s introduction Obama answered a number of questions from the press corps at that time:
Q: Who will walk the dog?
A: We will all share in that responsibility as a family.
Q: Is “Bo” neutered?
A: Yes.
Q: Where will the dog sleep?
A: Not in my bed – we have introduced that rule a long time ago.
Q: Can you remember what Truman said about dogs in the White House?
A: Yes – now I’ve finally got a friend. It took some time.
